RESUMO

The pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) becomes one of the most dreadful disease in the history of mankind in the entire world. The covid-19 outbreak started from Wuhan city of China and then rapidly transmitted throughout the world causing mass destruction and seldom. This sporadical disease has taken many lives due to sudden outbreak and no particular vaccines were available at the early wave. All the vaccines developed are mostly targeted to spike protein of the virus which involves the encapsulation of mRNA and nanoparticles. Nanotechnology intervention in fighting against the covid-19 is one way to tackle the disease from different angles including nano coating mask, nano diagnostic kits, nano sanitizer, and nano medicine. This article highlights the intervention of nanotechnology and its possible treatment against the covid-19. It is high time to come together all the units of material science and biological science to fight against the dreadful COVID-19. As an alternative strategy, a multidisciplinary research effort, consisting of classical epidemiology and clinical methodologies, drugs and nanotechnology, engineering science and biological apprehension, can be adopted for developing improved drugs exhibiting antiviral activities. The employment of nanotechnology and its allied fields can be explored to detect, treat, and prevent the covid-19 disease.

RESUMO

The synergistic wound healing and antibacterial activity of silver oxide nanoparticles embedded silk fibroin (Ag2O-SF) spuns is reported here. UV-Vis spectro photometric analysis of these spuns showed the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) confirming the formation of the silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag2O NPs) on the surface of the silk fibroin (SF). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) also confirmed the presence of Ag2O NPs on surface of SF. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the crystalline nature of both SF and Ag2O-SF. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) results showed the different forms of silk (I and II) and their corresponding protein (amide I, II, III) confirmations. Biodegradation study revealed insignificant changes in the morphology of Ag2O-SF spuns even after 14 days of immersion in phosphate buffered saline (PBS). Ag2O-SF spuns showed excellent antibacterial activity against both pathogen (S. aureus and M. tuberculosis) and non-pathogen (E. coli) bacteria. More importantly, In vitro wound healing (scratch assay) assay revealed fast migration of the T3T fibroblast cells through the scratch area treated with extract of Ag2O-SF spuns and the area was completely covered within 24 h. Cytotoxicity assay confirmed the biocompatible nature of the Ag2O-SF spuns, thus suggesting an ideal material for wound healing and anti-bacterial applications.

RESUMO

Here we report the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using ethanolic flower extract of Nyctanthes arbortristis, UVvisible spectra and TEM indicated the successful formation of silver nanoparticles. Crystalline nature of the silver nanoparticles was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy analysis established the capping of the synthesized silver nanoparticles with phytochemicals naturally occurring in the ethanolic flower extract of N. arbortristis. The synthesized silver nanoparticles showed antibacterial activity against the pathogenic strain of Escherichia coli MTCC 443. Furthermore, cytotoxicity of the silver nanoparticles was tested on mouse fibroblastic cell line (L929) and found to be non-toxic, which thus proved their biocompatibility. Antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity assay carried out in this study open up an important perspective of the synthesized silver nanoparticles.
